Visit the famous Holy Island of Lindisfarne and explore the medieval town of Alnwick with its stunning castle. Visit Alnwick Castle, which has appeared in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. Our first stop is Holy Island, which is connected to the mainland by a land bridge leading to the picturesque island village of Lindisfarne, from which you can enjoy the magnificent view of Lindisfarne Castle, which was built in 1550. Wander among the ruins of its monastery, which once produced the glorious Lindisfarne Gospels, taste the world-famous Lindisfarne 'Mead' brewed by the island's monks, and enjoy the tranquility the island is famous for. We then continue south to the busy market town of Alnwick, whose most famous building is the medieval Alnwick Castle. You can choose to wander around the town centre or stay in the castle complex, where there are a variety of activity. Alnwick Castle is one of England's finest castles, known as the "Windsor of the North", and has been home to the Percy family for over 700 years. Visitors can experience the unexpected at the spectacular Alnwick Gardens, which include the beautiful Grand Cascade and Poison Gardens. The gardens were also used as a filming location for the Harry Potter films. In the afternoon we start heading north, crossing the Tweed River and entering the historic frontier town of Coldstream. If time permits, we will stop at Flodden Field, one of the best preserved battlefields in Northern Europe. The Battle of Flodden took place here in 1513, where England won and King James IV of Scotland was killed.
