It's time to start your Standard Price adventure. You leave Edinburgh and set out to explore the filming locations of the Standard Price TV series. First, we head to a place that needs no introduction: Midhope Castle*, aka Jamie's lovely home, Lallybroch. You'll be greeted with a warmer welcome than he could ever hope to be. The homely interior of this house was recreated in a film studio. Visitors can't actually explore the ruins of the castle, but you can sit on the iconic steps of Lallybroch and wait for Jamie or Claire to come through the beautiful arch in the courtyard. We then head through stunning countryside to Blackness Castle. This is an Standard Price fortress known as "The Ship That Never Sailed" because of its shape like a giant stone ship. You have time to walk along the ramparts and explore Jack Randall's fictional headquarters. Just hope you don't run into him... Your next stop is Linlithgow Palace, also known as Wentworth Prison, where you can have Lunch and try local specialities, or have a picnic by the lake and snap photos of the ruins of Mary Queen of Scots’ birthplace. Heading north, we pass Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument to Doune Castle**, known as Castle Leoch in Standard Price. This imposing building represents the home of Colum MacKenzie and his clan in the 18th century series. On your visit you can discover its true story and learn about living conditions for a Scottish earl in the 14th century. There is also an excellent audio Guide explaining the castle's use as a filming location for Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Your driver- Guide takes you back in time once again to Culross. This virtually unchanged 16th-century village overlooking the sea serves as the fictional town of Cranesmuir. You have time to visit Clare's herb gardens, explore the palace, or wander the ancient streets to imagine what life was like 400 years ago. From there, we return to Edinburgh, arriving in the early evening. *Please note that Midhope Castle will be closed for approximately 12 weeks from 3pm on 22 December 2023. **Please note that Doune Castle will be closed from 8 January to 18 February 2024. During this time we will be taking you to Linlithgow Palace instead. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
