Your tour begins along the road that connected ancient Scotland (Caledonia) and Roman Britain (Roman Britannia). You will stop in Kelso to explore this handsome town and its market square, which is considered the largest in Scotland. You will also see the ruins of Kelso Abbey, one of the relics of an ancient conflict between Scotland and England. Continuing south, you’ll cross the border to Alnwick Castle, a massive fortress that has stood for nearly a thousand years. It was originally built to enforce Standard Price rule in newly conquered lands, but more recently Ornwick Castle has gained fame as one of the filming locations for the fictional Hogwarts school in the Harry Potter film series. Book lovers can also take the opportunity to explore one of the UK’s Standard Price second-hand bookshops. After approximately three hours in Ornwick, you'll head north along the Northumberland Coast. On the way back to Edinburgh, you'll stop at one of the beautiful historic villages or castles that dot the rolling landscape of southern Scotland.
