[Puerta del Sol, Toledo] Built in the late 14th century, a circular decoration with sun and moon patterns was added to the horseshoe-shaped arch in the 16th century, so it was called the Puerta del Sol y de la Luna. Under the sun and moon pattern is a carving of the seventh-century Archbishop of Toledo, San Ildefonso de Toledo (607-667), receiving the cross from the Virgin Mary. This is also what we have seen many times in the Cathedral. Obviously, this event has extraordinary significance for Toledo. [St. Martin Bridge] Built in the 13th century, the bridge has two Gothic-style defense towers. The Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes Católicos is also a Gothic masterpiece by Juan Guas, who built it under the orders of the Catholic Kings (los Reyes Católicos). The outstanding features of this monastery are the ornate carvings and the superb carving art on the cloisters. [Royal Monastery of San Juan] The Royal Monastery of San Juan, also known as the Royal Monastery of Saint John, is a historic Franciscan monastery in Toledo, Spain. Dedicated to Saint John, it was built in 1477 by King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile to celebrate the birth of their son, Prince Juan, and their victory over the forces of King Alfonso V of Portugal in the decisive Battle of Toro in 1476, paving the way for the union of the two countries.[1] The monastery was completed in 1504. Toledo was chosen because the city is located in the geographical center of Spain and is the former capital of the Visigothic Kingdom.
